Target screening in the Education sector for a PE firm

Situation:

A Private Equity firm wanted to understand how many private schools could qualify as potential targets for acquisition in six European markets.

Approach:

We worked alongside a UK Education Consultancy to build a model that answered this question. More specifically:

  • We did primary research to collect country-wide enrolment and private school data for six countries

  • We interviewed industry experts to understand the types of schools within each country and the criteria that would render them suitable for acquisition (e.g., non-religious, wholly private etc.)

  • We developed a “funnel” for each market, based on the criteria identified, to limit the pool of schools to those that fit the requirements

  • We synthesised our recommendations in slides and presented them to the client
