Target screening in the Education sector for a PE firm

Situation:
A Private Equity firm wanted to understand how many private schools could qualify as potential targets for acquisition in six European markets.
Approach:
We worked alongside a UK Education Consultancy to build a model that answered this question. More specifically:

We did primary research to collect country-wide enrolment and private school data for six countries

We interviewed industry experts to understand the types of schools within each country and the criteria that would render them suitable for acquisition (e.g., non-religious, wholly private etc.)

We developed a “funnel” for each market, based on the criteria identified, to limit the pool of schools to those that fit the requirements

We synthesised our recommendations in slides and presented them to the client
